Harvest Festival

We had so much fun at our Harvest pajama party!  Unfortunately, I couldn't locate my camera, so you will have to bear with my cell phone photos : )

We did a "Mummy Wrap" to kick things off!

Thank you to Brock's mom and Cameron's mom for organizing this event.  Kudos to you both!!  Thank you also to our parent volunteers: Ellie's Dad, Elizabeth Lu's Mom, and Niara's Mom!  You were fantastic!

Pumpkins, Pumpkins

We did a lot of Science and Math with our Pumpkin study this month.  In addition to estimating the weight, circumference, and number of lines on the pumpkins, we predicted whether or not they would sink or float.

We had a small scale work to demonstrate the difference between sinking and floating.
Then we filled our lunch bin with water, and guess what??? Pumpkins float!

\
We also dissected our two pumpkins and labeled the parts (ectocarp, mesocarp, endocarp, and seeds...) Then we needed to separate the seeds so that we could
verify our estimates.

Then two of our friends put 10 seeds into each cup, so that we could quickly count the total amount of seeds.

Welcome To Our Blog

Greetings families!  We finally have a blog going for our classroom at Geiger Montessori!  I will post pictures and keep you updated with our class "happenings."

We are practicing yoga poses and one of our students suggested we try the "snake pose" that she found in our book.  It was very cool.

Today we began our computer lab time with Mr. Pelz.  The students really enjoyed getting to work on their own computer for about an hour.  They explored the Starfall reading program and learned how to power on and off our Mac computers.  We are looking forward to more awesome computer time with our terrific parent volunteers!
