Terrific Kids ~ January

This month our theme was RESPECT, and these three students are always mindful of other peoples
feelings, work, and rights.

A Look at Korean Culture

As we are studying Asia this month, one of the families in our class that has a Korean heritage agreed to come in and show us their traditional dress, Hanboks, and share with us a little bit of the language and a children's book.

Thank you for your time and helping us understand a little bit more about Korean traditions and culture!

January Work

One area of study this month has been the new food pyramid, which can be individualized and includes exercise.  www.mypyramid.gov

We spent some of our practical life time doing food preparation work, which included grace and courtesy skills (serving others our sliced carrots) and cleaning up.

Carrot peeling and slicing

We also ground coffee beans (oooh the class smelled good!!)

....and we made butter.  We talked about how milk that is high in fat actually turns into an "oil group" food and should be used in moderation.

We tried to color the butter blue in honor of Seahawk "Blue Friday" but that didn't turn out so well....

We also squeezed oranges into juice.... yum!

Lastly, I just really liked this picture of our student and her melted bead project....
